Do you need a Reline

Your dentures are not going to fit forever without proper maintenance. A big part of that maintenance involves what’s called a “reline”. A denture reline helps fix a loose denture because it gives your denture a new, custom-fitted inside. This increases stability and decreases sore spots. When you first received your denture, it was custom fitted to your gums and bone as they were then. From the moment you lose teeth, the jaw bone slowly shrinks. As the bone shrinks, so do the gums. This creates small air gaps between your gums and the denture surface. Those air gaps make a denture loose and uncomfortable. To resolve the problem, you need to fill the air gaps! You can do that by relining the surface of the denture to fit the gums tightly again. A reline removes that old inside and re-fits the denture to your gums as they are today. Taking perfect impressions in dentistry is extremely important. If the impression isn’t accurate, then the model will be inaccurate, and everything that comes after that will also be inaccurate. Here are some tips to follow if your impression is taken for accurate results. If you have had gag reflex issues before then let your denturist know about this. Your body’s gag response is protective and normal is necessary for an accurate impression. Breathe through your nose to avoid swallowing the alginate material.
